Carol Dewayne “Bud” Gayer of West Frankfort, Illinois, February 8, 1932 – May 15, 2019

Carol Dewayne “Bud” Gayer, 87, of West Frankfort, Illinois passed away at 11:10 p.m., Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at his home with his loving family at his side.
Bud was born February 8, 1932 in Zeigler to John Clifford and Clara Opal (Christy) Gayer.  He married Dora Ethel Abbott January 29, 1955 in Benton, Illinois.  She survives in West Frankfort.
Other survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Starr Lynn and Jim Lindhorst of West Frankfort and Carolyn Sue Gayer and David Jennings of West Frankfort; three grandchildren, Jason (Cristal) Ridings of Johnston City,  Rob Ridings of Freeman Spur, Lynn (Brent) Graves of Marion; seven great grandchildren, Kendall Baker of Johnston City, Jakob and Lucy Ridings of Johnston City, Gavin Ridings of Galatia, Teal, Tessa and Ty Ridings of Freeman Spur and Anthony Graves of Marion; a sister, Doris E. Lee of West Frankfort and a brother, Cris (Cheryl) Gayer of Orient.
His parents and a brother, Clifford Gene Gayer preceded him in death.
Mr. Gayer was a graduate of West Frankfort High School and an Alumni of SIU.  He was a veteran of the United States Army, proudly serving his country during the Korean Conflict with the 5th Armored Division and a member of the American Legion Post 1961 in Orient, the Zeigler Masonic Lodge 1048 and the Plumfield Christian Church.
He was employed at Olin Mathieson in Ordill and then became a self-employed construction worker.  He’ll be sadly missed by all that new him.
Funeral services for Mr. Gayer will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Vantrease Funeral Home in Zeigler with Reverend Max Samples officiating.  Burial will be at Denning Cemetery with military grave side rites courtesy of the Zeigler and Orient American Legions, the West Frankfort VFW and Marion National Guard Flag Detail.  Visiting hours are from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., on Saturday at the funeral home.
