Carroll Rhea Turner of Zeigler, Illinois, August 10, 1941 – December 9, 2019

Carroll Rhea Turner, 78, of Zeigler, passed away at 10:22 p.m., Monday, December 9, 2019 at his home with his wife and daughters at his side.
Carroll was born August 10, 1941 in Sangamon County to Lawrence and Alta (McDonald) Turner.
He married Jerilyn Ross September 1, 1962 in Waverly.  She survives in Zeigler.
He is also survived by two daughters, Debbie (John) Kerley of Springfield and Beckie (Aaron) Savka of Carbondale; three grandsons, Airman Ross (Lori) Kerley, Airman Seth (Airman Liz) Kerley, Airman Parker Savka and a granddaughter, Olivia Leigh Savka; five great grandchildren; two brothers, Preston and Bob (Gail) Turner of Waverly; a sister, Kay (Bill) Handy of Pleasant Plains and several nieces and nephews.
His parents and a sister-in-law, Shirley Turner preceded him in death.
Mr. Turner initiated the Agriculture Program at Rend Lake College.  He served as the Department Chairman and retired as the Vocational Dean after 27 years.
Funeral services for Mr. Turner will be held at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, December 14, 2019 at Vantrease Funeral Home in Zeigler with Pastor Lori Van Horn officiating.  Visiting hours are from 4 to 8:00 p.m., Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be Saturday afternoon at the Waverly Cemetery.  A short celebration and visitation will be from 2 to 3:00 p.m., at Neece-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Waverly with the burial following. 
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Turner are suggested to the “Rend Lake College Foundation” for the Zeigler United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund for ZR graduates who are attending Rend Lake College or the “ZR Coaches vs Cancer”.  Visit  to sign the online register book.
